Pražská The Corona Lantern se opět vrací na českou metalovou scénu, a to právě dnes, kdy vypouští nový singl s názvem „Turning Possibly Into Never“. Tato nadějná melancholicko-atmosferická formace rozvířila vody českých kovových prken naposledy v roce 2015, kdy vydala album „Consuming the Tempest“. Recenzi na něj si můžete přečíst zde. https://thecoronalantern.bandcamp.com https://bandzone.cz/thecoronalantern https://www.facebook.com/thecoronalantern/

I love festivals. I love metal festivals in particular. And most of all, I do love small metal festivals! How about you? Do you prefer the big, monstrous mega shows as that of Wacken or Nova-Rock? They come along with standing at the in-field gate for two hours waiting to be let in exactly at the last chords of the last  song of the one big name you have wanted to see all your life, watching the show from a spot 100 m off the stage and thus on one of these large screens supplying a perfect outdoor-TV feeling, walking…

Or A Gig Report: Beast in Black supported by Turmion Katilöt Winter 2019. Carnival. Downtown Frankfurt turned into a huge party area. Little off the city center in the legendary Batschkapp two Finnish bands are scheduled to play their shows. Beast in Black supported by Turmion Katilöt. It is the first headlining tour for Beast in Black promoting their second album “From Hell With Love”. This tour is a risky endeavour. Two bands only and none of which has much of reputation in continental Europe. Beast in Black has toured on German stages for the first time only 14 months…

During Nummirock 2017, VORNA invited me to meet them in their camp for a long and intensive interview (>>link). We spoke of their band dynamics, personalities that make the band; how they come up with new music; the role of their ‘seventh band member’ (actually their manager) and many things more. Recently we spoke again – little before their Metal Crane Festival show in the legendary Nosturi and met in a cozy venue office, the musicians snugly lying on comfy couches in an easy-going mood … VORNA only lately finished their work on album No 3 the release date of…

A Rough and Diverse Sound Crawling Its Way Under Your Skin Review by Cat Maverick (aka Bastian Blessing) A few weeks ago I visited the second Metal Crane Festival in Helsinki. The festival – just like my whole trip to Finland – was a unique and overwhelming experience, which is why I decided to write an article about it and tell the world (see). Before the festival, most of the band names on the lineup were unknown to me, including Medeia. My mentor (Ms Cesar Little) asked me to pick my favorite bands of the festival to be included as…

Recently the second Metal Crane Festival led me to Finland for the very first time. Initially prepared for the cold north, I was thawed by quite the warm welcome. Even more so, as the crowd and the bands in Helsinki’s famous Nosturi were really hot. The Nosturi is a more than remarkable venue: a multi-floored, formerly commercial metal construction situated in the onetime industrial harbour surrounded by a wood of cranes, hosting a restaurant, the concert venue and countless rehearsal facilities of bands, some of them very well-known. Perfect venue for the Metal Crane Festival! Friday Night – Antithesis Of…

Metallijate (Ville Mussallo, Mikko Heikkilä and Antti Rantavuo) means metallic garbage. T(h)rash metal? Anyway you will meet the word written on containers wherever you go in Finland. Downtown. In a suburbian living area. In a park. On the beach. On a parking lot along the road. Even on a trail in the middle of nowhere in the loneliness of Lapland. The newly established band has not made it this far yet. Meeting Ville and Mikko in a gloomy bar below the famous Nosturi concert venue in Helsinki, Mikko tells me how it all began: With a photo of exactly such…

Obscuro: Congratulations on the positive reception of the new album and on the coming European tour with Omnium Gatherum and Wolfheart. You guys deserve the success. First let me ask: how does a Nothgard song get made? Is there a main songwriter in the band? Dom: Basically I come up with all new material. So I start to write a song on the guitar, set up a basic drumtrack & add keyboards/orchestrations. At this point the lyrical theme is already in my mind. Afterwards the band gets the songs, add their ideas and Felix Indra (Drums) composes the real drums.…

Heavy Metal Maniac, that’s what Marko Syrjala, bass player of Evil Drive calls himself. And considering the dedication it takes to run a metal band, make albums, play shows and achieve some success, the term maniac is merely more than one angle on many metal band stories. Perhaps being a maniac to some extended is needed to make it work, right? Evil Drive are a Melo Death Metal band from the very south of Finland, which only recently signed with Reaper Entertainment. Viktoria Viren and her band mates, Ville Viren (gui), Juha-Pekka Pusa (gui), Marko Syrjala (bass), Juha Beck (dr),…

Perhaps this is not a common interview. But then the Dark River Festival (DRF) was not a common festival experience to me. Henri Eerola, the festival and social media manager, said it is like a class reunion and coming home. His comparison fits in more than one way. The crew running the festival has been the same for many years, musicians and band have played there before and enjoyed coming back and the audience is the most critical you can have, with parents and friends among them. So besides Henri I asked some of the musicians about their Dark River…
